PRP & Regenerative Medicine in Central New York
A personalized discussion of nonsurgical treatment options, evidence, and realistic goals.
Understand the treatment before choosing it
Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is prepared from a sample of your own blood. A centrifuge concentrates platelets, and the preparation is injected into a selected treatment site. PRP is one type of orthobiologic treatment, often discussed under the broader term regenerative medicine.
Evidence and expected benefit differ by condition. PRP may help selected tendon problems and mild-to-moderate knee osteoarthritis; results are not guaranteed. It should not be presented as a cure or a promise to regrow cartilage. Your provider will compare the evidence, alternatives, risks, and cost for your particular diagnosis.
Start with a diagnosis and a complete plan
At CNY Orthopedics, regenerative medicine is part of a broader discussion about your symptoms and goals. Dr. Gorav Simlote focuses on nonoperative sports medicine, including regenerative medicine, and works alongside our orthopedic surgeons and advanced practice providers.
Your visit is an opportunity to review prior treatment, imaging, activity limits, and what you hope to improve. Options may include rehabilitation, activity changes, medication, injections, or surgery when appropriate. An injection should support a plan for function and recovery.
Questions to discuss at your consultation
- What diagnosis is being treated, and what evidence supports this procedure for it?
- What improvement is realistic, and how will we assess the result?
- What alternatives are available?
- What risks, restrictions, and rehabilitation will apply?
- What is the total cost, and what does my specific insurance plan cover?
PRP coverage is often limited. Confirm coverage and out-of-pocket costs before scheduling a procedure. Ask your care team for individualized preparation instructions; do not change prescribed medication based on general online information.

Is PRP the same as a stem-cell treatment?
No. PRP is a platelet preparation from your blood. The term regenerative medicine covers different procedures; ask which exact treatment is proposed and what evidence supports it.
Will one injection fix my condition?
There is no guaranteed result. Your diagnosis, symptoms, previous care, and goals should guide the discussion about whether treatment is worthwhile.
Can I book a consultation first?
